How To Maintain Your Replacement Windows?

It is common knowledge that vinyl replacement windows are low maintenance. But it doesn’t mean that you skip the cleaning altogether. In order to ensure that your home windows and doors last for a very long time while retaining their looks, you need to clean them occasionally. However, maintaining replacement windows is not as straightforward as it sounds.

There are multiple things that need to be taken care of in order to ensure that they keep looking awesome for many years.

Different Things You Need to Focus on to Ensure Durability of Replacement Windows

As mentioned before, there are multiple processes related to the overall maintenance of replacement windows. Let’s have a look:

Clean Frames regularly

  • Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dirt from the window sill. At the same time, track areas before washing.
  • Clean window and door frames by using a combination of mild dish soap and water.
  • Refrain from using abrasive or caustic cleaners or solvents as they can harm the frames
  • At the end, rinse frames completely by using clean water, and later dry them by wiping them.

Drainage System Care for Best Results

  • Make a habit of monitoring drainage or “weep holes”. Ensure that they are always clear of stucco, sand, dirt, or building materials. Ensure cleanliness both inside and outside the window or door by checking the bottom of the frame.
  • Ensure that sill or track areas are kept clean of dirt or debris.
  • Utilize a small bottle brush with soft bristles to clear openings.

Immaculate Glass Care for Long-Term Maintenance

  • Don’t ever use any petroleum-based cleaners or caustic chemicals on your glass.
  • Don’t use a razor blade, putty knife, or abrasive pad for the purpose of cleaning the glass.
  • A high-pressure spray nozzle should never be used while rinsing your windows and doors after washing.
  • Don’t ever utilize abrasive or caustic cleaners as they can seriously harm the glass, causing irreversible damage
  • Clean glass using mild dish soap along with clean water.
  • Refrain from washing glass in the presence of direct sunlight.

Maintaining Hardware for Good Looks and Long-Lasting Performance

  • Ensure regular lubrication of tracks and rollers of sliding windows and doors by using silicone-based lubricants as they allow your doors to open and shut smoothly.
  • Every year, you should tighten any loose screws on window locks and door handles. This is very important for ensuring security and proper functionality.

Perform Functional Tests Whenever Possible

  • From time to time, you should test all moving parts in your windows and doors. This is crucial to ensure that they open, close, and lock smoothly. Also, always address any operational issues whenever you find them as any delay in fixing them can lead to further damage.
  • When it comes to double-hung and single-hung windows, it is vital to check the balance mechanism from time to time. If you discover a window that won’t stay open or that slams shut, you should fix it immediately as it can turn into a safety hazard.

Final Thoughts

Vinyl replacement windows are in vogue nowadays because they are low maintenance and look great. However, it doesn’t mean you should completely ignore them. By following the tips mentioned in this article, you can take good care of your replacement windows and ensure that they last for a very long time.
